British Values
St Clement’s High School is committed to serving the community both within the school and in and around West Norfolk
We recognise the multi-cultural, multi faith and ever-changing nature of the United Kingdom and the vital role we have in ensuring that groups or individuals within the school are not subjected to intimidation or radicalisation by those wishing to unduly, or illegally, influence them.
We are an inclusive school where we focus on the well-being and progress of every child and we believe that the Equality Act provides a framework to support our commitment to valuing diversity, tackling discrimination, promoting equality of opportunity and fostering good relationships between people. It ensures that we will continue to tackle issues of disadvantage and underachievement of different groups and to ensure there is no discrimination against any individual or group, regardless of faith, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, political or financial status, or similar.
St Clement’s High School is dedicated to preparing students for their adult life beyond the curriculum and ensuring that we promote and reinforce British values to all our students. The Government emphasises that schools are required to ensure that key ‘British Values’ are taught in all UK schools.
The government set out its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy, as follows:
- The value of democracy
- Individual liberty
- The rule of law
- Mutual respect for, and tolerance of, those with different beliefs, and tolerance of those without faith
St Clement’s High School embeds these British Values into individual subject curriculum studies, our tutor programme during tutor time, in our regular assemblies and in our daily expectations of students and staff.
